Everyone has their own favorite things in life… basically everything can be hierarchical according to your taste. What’s your taste in guitarists? Who is on your favorite guitarists list? It is a tough question I know…
You know how there is always a top 10 of amazing solos, rock solos, great guitarists, etc. Or how there is this Rolling Stone 100 greatest guitarists, which is actually pretty good?
Well, we launched the question in the office of, who are your favorite guitarists? And the answers took a while as it really is a difficult question to answer. There are countless amazing guitarists, and I am not talking about any particular music style.
Anyway, I thought it could be a good idea to exchange what the Jamorama team like and of course, we would love to read who is on your list too.
Here are some of our favorite ones, in no particular order:
Jeff Beck
English rock guitarist. He is one of three noted guitarists to have played with The Yardbirds (Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page are the other two). Beck also formed The Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice.
Jimmy Page
English guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. He began his career as a studio session guitarist in London and was subsequently a member of The Yardbirds from 1966 to 1968, after which he founded the English rock band Led Zeppelin.
Getting a little bit heavier with…
Adam Jones
Guitarists for the American band TOOL – They really created a revolution in heavy music, they make some kind of experimental music. I have always said that this band is in its own music genre. See what you think!
Michael Romeo
Another heavy band, more on the side of Progressive Metal or even Heavy Metal, Symphony X is the name of the band and they are really really good. Check what Michael Romeo is capable of:
John McLaughlin
Pfff! What can I say about this guy? He is an English guitarist, bandleader and composer. His music includes many genres of jazz, and rock, which he coupled with an interest in Indian classical music to become one of the pioneering figures in fusion. Check him out with his electric band, The Mahavishnu Orchestra
John Petrucci
Well, another Progressive Metal guitarists, John Petrucci, he really is something. I personally love him, and I talked about him on an older post. His band is Dream Theater which you probably have heard of. Check out Petrucci’s solo stuff!
David Gilmour
No introduction or comments needed, the greatest David Gilmour from Pink Floyd.
